ToggleWHAT HAPPENED?
The England captain severed career-long ties with Premier League side Tottenham when opting to join the reigning Bundesliga champions in the summer of 2023. A €100 million (£86m/$109m) transfer took him to Germany, with an immediate return delivered on that investment with a flurry of 25 goals through 22 appearances.

WHAT GOMES SAID ABOUT KANE
Gomes, who spent time alongside Kane in north London, has told of the 30-year-old frontman cementing his standing among the global elite: “No, I never thought that he was going to leave Tottenham. He’s a player that can play at any club in the world. He’s proving now that he’s not just in a comfortable zone. He’s a different player.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Kane’s character, alongside his considerable ability, has carried him to the very top of the game. Gomes has offered an example of what sets the prolific frontman apart, with it clear from a young age that he was not going to be held back. Gomes said of seeing Kane return to Spurs with a broken metatarsal during a loan spell at Norwich in 2012-13: “I have a picture in my mind, at the old training ground, he came in from one of his loans with his leg broken. I have this picture of him coming into the training ground, with his head down, because he had lost his opportunity to play. He then became the player that everybody knows and you want to have him at any club.”
